The line between Fashion and Beauty is so slim that it’s often times blurred to the point of recognition. When you go to a department store, they are either combined in one floor or sectioned next to each other. Fashion and Beauty are not an “either/or” thing and they’re not mutually exclusive all the time. Granted, they are able to thrive independently but they also manage to complement one another in a symbiotic kind of relationship.
I personally always feel at my best when I am well-dressed and when I have makeup on. Hold your horses, natural-beauty champions, I don’t mean 3-inch thick makeup to the point that I look like Monet painting–I just mean additional enhancements that accentuate my best features/hide my imperfections… all in the name of confidence.
So when I was invited by Makeup Magazine, a newly launched magazine that featured all things “Beauty”, I was ecstatic. It is the first-of-its-kind in the Philippines and I just love the fact that it’s dedicated to that particular cause. Though I’ve sifted through each page and gobbled up all their reviews and suggestions, I’m paying it forward, so to speak, by giving you all a top 5 product must-have suggestions that are perfect for the Summer (ones that I use, of couse)!
I’m pretty sure a lot of people have noticed the fact that my lips are most often dry, even in photos–I’m not a huge fan of water (it’s such a bad habit, I know) and I always forget to re-apply my lip balm (I have a variety of random brands). Lipgloss is also a no-no for me because I hate the sticky feeling! Thankfully, I tried this Lip Serum from Canmake that’s already UV-ready–it moisturizes my lips and doubles as a gloss; plus, it’s pocket friendly!2. Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette (from Lannel Boutique)Sharlene Dy of Lannel Boutique on Instgram, gave me the Hourglass Blush Palette for Christmas. What I thought was a “mere” handy blush palette, proved to be so much more! I love the quality of this product–the moment I tapped my brush on the powder and applied it on my cheeks, the color came out but not staggeringly so. It also had highlighting properties that highlighted my cheekbones on top of giving me color! My favorite of the lot is the pink one but to be honest, all 3 are outstanding day-to-night shades especially for warm-toned Filipinos!3. Shu Uemura UV mousse makeup baseI usually don’t put foundation on during regular days–I might be inclined to put BB Cream when I have to be out and about but on a normal day, I’m usually just foundation-free. What I don’t compromise however, is the use of a makeup primer (which I skip sometimes if I do put on foundation)–especially one that doubles as a sunblock for the face. I like that its formulation is very light so I feel like it doesn’t clog up my pores unlike most primers, but at the same time, it moisturizes the skin so my face looks really healthy and glowing the entire time.Since it’s the summer, I have to do-away with my Shu Uemura natural oil cleanser. Oil-based cleansers should be avoided during this season since it’s not conducive for the skin. However, given that my skin is dry, I try to veer off from alcohol-based cleanser/toners as well and so, to remove makeup thoroughly, I rely heavily on Nivea’s gentle facial cleansing wipes. It removes every single makeup and impurities off my face and keeps it supple to touch! I’ve received so many emails and tweets of readers who took my tip on getting this and all of them are quite happy with the results!I’ve recently been acquainted to a whole slew of Canmake products and I can’t believe just how amazing each and every single one of them are–for the price at that. I’ve been using Canmake since 2008 actually and would only get to buy them outside the country but since they’ve set-up shop here in the Philippines (the nearest one to me is Landmark Makati), I didn’t have to go so far anymore. Although I’m a huge fan of their cream cheek (which is also perfect for the summer, by the way) and their eye lightening liquid, this “Pocket Rescue” is quite unique. Simply apply it to oily patches and pores and it instantly absorbs it and lasts for hours (yes, legit). The best part of the deal is that it doesn’t dry up the skin.
