Sadly, I don’t really have that much to say today… I think I’ve exhausted all my creative juices from working. What a bummer! As much as I want to write down a short and generic: “hey, this is what I wore recently” body, I just can’t. Every fibre of my being refuses to. So maybe I’ll share a brief but profound (or pretentious, depends on how you see it) realization I had over dinner, while having a casual conversation with the boyfriend.
If there’s anything I wish I learned sooner, it’s to be passionate about certain things in life. I mean, I’ve always had hobbies that I liked–reading books for one, then there’s fashion but… never to the point of extreme torridity. For someone who liked to read at every waking hour, I was always surprisingly nonchalant when asked about my favorite book/authors; Likewise, though I thoroughly enjoyed fashion, I never saw how it would impact my life beyond self-expression and so I never really explored its potential until recently.
It seemed like the moment I hit puberty, I was unable to feel. I was so cynical about life then that I felt having “dreams” and “desires” were petty and immature. Don’t get me wrong, I had a happy childhood–I was just a self-imposed “emo.” Maybe fanfiction was to blame? There were times when I’d look at an acquaintance and wonder how it would be for me, if I just dropped my walls and my pre-conceived notions and allowed myself the privilege to experience gargantuan emotions and to take pleasure in shallow entertainment.
Now I know why friends, family, and former flames would often wonder if I had Asperger’s or some deep-seated psychological problem (I don’t by the way, or at least, not anymore).
It took a while.
It was a conscious decision too.
And now I think, I’m a well-adjusted human being. Well, maybe that’s relative but I’d like to think so. Especially when I started working last week… I suddenly had concrete goals and wants from my career and life. It was all too refreshing! I feel like a full-fledge human being. So I’m just discovering and trying to see how dynamic I can be and how much I can grow my desires. Some people are passionate about music, movies, partying, fashion, books, friends, boyfriends, religion, and career… and I guess now, I’m one of them.
Anyway, here’s an outfit I wore to the screening of scholars for my boyfriend’s foundation. It was still pretty much Summer when I wore this and so I opted for something cool but chic at the same time. Here are some more photos:
Last week, I had the privilege to drop by the Topshop branch at SM Mega Fashion Hall. I’m usually the type of person to drop by every single branch of High Street brands I shop in, if only because I know the inventory at each brand varies. For Topshop specifically, I make sure to drop by 4 different branches every month!
So since I’m always in Makati–my first stop is Topshop Powerplant or Topshop SM Aura during the weekends. The Topshop SM Aura branch is an actual favorite of mine–the manager, Ms. Lyn, knows me and my boyfriend (she used to be stationed at Powerplant). They have an extensive collection and it’s lined up so pleasantly that I always have a grand time checking inventory. Next, I go to Topshop Greenbelt during lunch break at work for some quick shopping–now the only thing unique about this branch is the Topshop x Adidas collection but it’s pretty small compared to the previous two I mentioned but it’s great during Sale Season as they usually still have styles and sizes of items that I want. Lastly, I go to Topshop Robinsons Magnolia branch since it’s on the way home to my Quezon City house and it stocks the most recent collections and style being their newest branch.
So now, I might just have to include Topshop SM Mega Fashion Hall on my list. They asked me to drop by a couple of weeks ago to check the branch out. Normally, I would avoid SM Megamall like a plague because I can’t handle the foot traffic but since I was processing my Spanish Visa at the FDA, I decided–why not? Besides, there must be something really unique and worth sharing about this branch if they were so eager to present it to bloggers…
I was right! The Topshop at SM Mega Fashion Hall houses the best selections when pitted against all the other Topshop branches! I mean, sure there are duplications of items but they also have the most items from their Kate Moss collection and they have segregated certain styles so prettily that it matches certain personalities and trends already. They’re also complete–from a knickers section to shoes, and oh, they also have exclusive collections only available in this branch!
For more appreciation, check out some photos I took. The thing about SM Mega Fashion Hall is that it houses a lot of High Street brands, to be honest. So if you do decide to visit, I highly suggest you check out their Topshop branch.
