I grew up under the impression that the things you consider most important are those that you exert a tremendous amount of effort on and those that you think of a lot (if not, every waking hour). To an extent, it is true–I mean, why waste time and energy over something you deem trivial, right?–but of course, the things you dote on are those that are most important to you, and just because there are some things you don’t prioritize, doesn’t mean that they aren’t at all important and that they do not have innate value. It’s always a matter of perspective, I believe.
As human beings, we are all self-centered. I don’t believe it is a flaw, it’s human nature! No, wait… I think it is plain nature. Look at the pattern of all living things, they function in such a way that is crucial to their being. So no, I don’t think it’s wrong for people to prioritize themselves and to have their own hierarchy of needs that are different from everyone else’s, but I also believe that people should remember that what might not be important to them, might be important to others one way or another. It is that ability to discern, ability to be compassionate, and ability to capture “nuances” that puts us at the topmost of the Animal Kingdom.
People do things that are important for them (directly or indirectly). People do things to elicit a reaction (undesired or desired). People do things under any possible condition dictated by time and maybe a pulse. People simply do things because they are hardly ever idle.
What I implore of everyone (and this is something I’ve recently re-learned) is to use their cognitive functions before doing anything. We should all learn to look at the bigger picture, to do a cost-benefit analysis table in our heads, and to think things thoroughly before acting. A lot of actions are very easy to do, but once done, it is very crucial to remember that it cannot be undone.
Anyway, this is an outfit I’ve worn recently to a short visit to the dentist. I’ve been under a lot of stress lately and as a proactive way to de-stress, I wear things I would consider as “fancy” to put a semblance of balance. I’m in a good place now, thankfully, but I find that mulling and internalizing any form of angst you harbor even in everyday tasks can prove to be detrimental to yourself. Here are some more photos:
So now, we’ve reached the bottom of my post. After a somewhat heavy entry, I’d like to lighten up the mood! Who here own an online boutique with ready inventories? Well, I have something for you guys!
I’m sure every person in Manila has heard of the “Big Brand Sale”, which usually happens a few times every year. They host a bazaar with a variety of big name brands with unbelievable discounts in reputable high traffic areas for consumers to flock over! The people behind this, Made For You Marketing Group (who has also organized Gifts and Gadgets Midnight Madness and the Great Outdoors Sale) are cooking up a new event this May 30 – June 1 and they want one special online shop to reap the benefits! Here’s how:
Grab this poster from my blog and repost it on your instagram.
Make sure your account is set on public!
Tag @dominiquetiu and @madeforyoumarketing as you create a message to invite your loyal customers to visit the bazaar.
Use the #BBS2014 hashtag and make all your followers and friends like it!
What’s at stake for the chosen online shop is an opportunity to get a 2×3 booth with partitions, carpeting, tables and chairs, and booth lighting worth 20K! No need to pay for rental, all you have to do is earn–and this bazaar has always been successful! Winners will be chosen based on the most likes garnered! So what are you waiting for? The contest will close on May 26 to give the winner ample time to prepare as well. So post away… NOW!!!
And then last, I would like to share my video for Petrol Jeans Philippines on why “Life is Worth Celebrating” is up on Youtube! If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:
