Back in the days of my pretentious yore, when people asked me to describe myself, I would always answer (without fail): “I am a walking paradox.”
It was my template response to such a mundane question often derived from slum books, thesis questionnaires, magazines, newspapers, television features, and generic FGD introductions. I thought it made me sound cool, like the artsy-fartsy book-hugging hipster geek I thought myself to be.
Not that I was lying or anything. Saying “I am a walking paradox” is a sugarcoated, concise version of stating: “I don’t know who I am yet, I am still in the process of discovering me, so in the process, I will continuously contradict myself but just so you know, I was doing it on purpose (not) for the sake of self-exploration!”
To be fair, I think I’m still pretty much your average everyday “walking paradox”… just minus the “conceit”. I know for a fact that I can be this, I can be that, I am most definitely not contained by mere descriptions, I am so much more but, I don’t have to make a fuss out of it. It’s enough that I know, I don’t have to prove myself to everyone… the select few though, I can show via my actions instead of words. So now-a-days, when people ask, I usually have no answer (or sometimes, I make a bullshit answer that would hardly scrape the surface for the sake of moving on to the next person). I don’t need to. As one of my favorite authors, John Green said: “What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person.”
Enough of my “nuggets of wisdom”, allow me to share with everyone what I wore to work yesterday. This is a contradictory outfit… there is a pink in the midst of Obsidians, a touch of lace with yards of leather. Now I know what my FOSSIL Joanna meant when she said her fashion preferences and style are bipolar (trademark description, she was the first to use this term in the Philippine Blogsphere by the way).
I’m not really one for the tomboy/boyfriend fashion but I think it was a fair try! What do you think?
(1) Who is excited to see Macklemore and Ryan Lewis? They’re having a concert here in the Philippines this March 16! If you all behave, continue to read my blog, and like their FB page to keep yourself posted, you just might be one of the few who’ll win free tickets. I’m launching a contest for 3 free tickets next week so comment if you want “it” to double your chances of winning.
(2) I will be looking for the most fashion savvy girls at SM Megamall this March 9. If you think you’ve got it, I’ll see you there!
