I firmly believe that one’s mood plays a huge role when it comes to dressing up. There are days when you just want to dress to the nines even if there’s no particular occasion and then, consequently, there are also days when you want to dress down even if you have to be all over the place.
However, I don’t equate dressing down with being uncoordinated. People with that mindset should get a new perspective. Just because you have errands to do and you think no one will see you, doesn’t give you an excuse to look unpresentable. You owe it to yourself–every single second is a life-changing opportunity and you don’t want to deter certain opportunities just because you don’t look prepared or ready.
But don’t worry, I think the art of dressing up and the art of dressing down is a tricky thing. Everyone has a learning curve. It took a while for me to get it but hey, at least I got it. Just remember that just because you’re in a hurry, doesn’t mean you should simply grab the article of clothing that’s sitting restlessly on top of your (freshly ironed, I hope) clothes pile. Put a bit of thought into it, just a little will go a long way.
Better yet, stick to fool-proof favorites.
I know that the bottomline is that, so what? You’re just doing errands right? And what people think isn’t really important? I know that the bottomline is, it’s really not important what people think. I mean, at the end of the day, you’re there to please yourself right, so as long as you’re not doing anything wrong?
Yeah, I guess. To each his own. I just think it’s settling and it’s a waste of possibilities. Everyone should be prepared for anything life throws at them… especially style-wise.
When I’m out and about, being a busy bee, I make sure I bring all the essentials with me. By this, I mean the basics and not your whole house. It took me a while to realize just how inefficient it is to bring my oversized bags when I’m running around doing errands. I figured having everything with me would make my job easier but in reality, it tends to ruin my posture (considering I’m slightly scoliotic) and when I try to look for small items like car keys or my iphone, I end up pulling everything out!
So on weekends, I try my best to downsize. Not that it’s a difficult feat of course as I am the queen of clutches, as my FOSSIL calls me, and this is because I prefer to use clutches most of the time over bags in general. For this outfit, I chose a clear one–which is plain nifty considering I can see precisely where all the items are situated.
For my essentials that day, I had with me my iPhone 5 powered by Globe LTE, my hipster glasses from some building in Granville Road, Hong Kong, my MAC Nicki Minaj lipstick from Lannel Boutique–the only shop I trust for authentic MAC/branded makeup for less, my Coach wallet from college (funny story: my previous wallet was a Chanel Camelia but due to wear and tear, it had to retire. While looking for a wallet, I decided to use my old college wallet given to me by my dad, and then suddenly, I was doing exemplary at work and meeting my targets. I’m a bit superstitious so I decided to stick it out until my parents decide to give me a new one–I think they’re my good luck charm), and my favorite perfume for day wear, Escada: Absolutely Me–which is a mixture of Oriental Vanilla Floral fragrance. Normally, I like clean scents–my top favorites are Charriol, Lanvin Eclat, Bvlgari Omnia, Escada Delicate Scents, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, and Jo Malone Verbenas of Provence… which I think is a mix of citrus and Jasmine. Escada’s Absolutely Me captures that… but adds a bit of depth by giving it a mix of floral-fruity whiff. If you’re looking for a new scent, I highly recommend this!
Anyway! Happy weekend, everyone!
