This was the outfit I wore to the Carly Rae Jepsen concert last August 7. I knew for a fact that I was going to be in the midst of screaming, hyperactive teenyboppers so I wanted to blend in and be able to fist bump with the youth in an age-appropriate ensemble.
Or not! Just kidding. I was going to the concert with my best friends and boyfriend so I’m still pretty much hanging out with the “oldies.”
Anyway, I always thought of Carly Rae Jepsen’s music style as fun, young, and hip… so I wanted to channel that pop vibe into my wardrobe. Since it was pretty much night time already, I didn’t want to be too colorful and vibrant–somewhere in between was fine so as long as I remain playful and not all-too-serious.
So we all had a great night, which I can chalk up to the presence of stellar company and A+ entertainment.
The latter was something unexpected as we thought Carly Rae Jepsen wasn’t that big of a music icon yet but trust me on this, don’t let her tenure in the industry fool you. She packs quite the punch with her impressive vocals and her adorable antics on stage. She’s not that smooth with transitions yet and she lacks a bit of stage presence but I think, in due time, she’ll be a great performer.
Plus, she’s quite the songwriter.
Her set was pretty short that night–I think we ended in less than an hour and a half, but I guess that’s enough for us “oldies.” We went home in high spirits, and singing the chorus of “Call Me Maybe” before hitting the bed for an early wake-up call for work tomorrow (boo).
Here are some more photos of my outfit (coincidentally, my best friend Jules came in an aztec skirt and denim jacket… great minds think alike):
