I’m seriously starting to love my flash accessory already! It’s so handy and practical–perfect for when I dress up at night (like this particular photo set) or when the lighting is dim (see my previous blog post). I’m still learning the ropes though because I’m photography-illiterate but my boyfriend has been so much help. I wouldn’t know how to fix the settings myself, really.
Although I will always prefer taking photos using “natural lighting”, a flash or some source of artificial lighting serves as a nice work-around for days when mother nature isn’t as cooperative. At some point, Joanna and I were contemplating getting full-blown studio lights for indoor usage but realized that maybe we should each get a better camera that isn’t too bulky. Personally, I’m looking into getting the Fujifilm x100s–as recommended by the photographer-hobbyist of a boyfriend.
Anyway, as you can see, I am back to regular programming… as in, back to my corporate casual ways with my tweed and blazers. I’m a fan of the black and gold combo–always have been, and if you’ve been a frequent visitor of this blog, you would probably notice the same thing. There’s just something so tasteful and elegant when you put the two colors together. For summer however, I had to set the combination aside and replace all blacks with whites or nudes to keep things light and less overwhelming. Now that summer is over, I’m back to black (like Amy Winehouse) again!
Plus, my boyfriend gave me a black and gold satchel from Phillip Lim for our anniversary. I made it a point to use the bag frequently as it makes him proud and all sorts of sunny. Of course, there’s also the fact that it’s actually a versatile piece–I can opt to pair it with something elegant or something edgy, and it shifts seamlessly. It’s definitely my current favorite bag in the world–more than the Celine, the Chanel, the Hermes, and the YSLs.
Why? Well, I only mentioned in passing that I liked this particular model while scanning Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. It was such a brief off-tangent comment that I don’t even remember making it. He does, though. That’s what makes my boyfriend extremely sweet and thoughtful–sure, the bag is pricey, and calling me a spoiled girlfriend is definitely the world’s largest understatement, but honestly, I could care less about the cost. This gift was proof of how attentive he is as a boyfriend–as my boyfriend, at that. He’s perceptive with details and he takes care of me well–something I’m not so good at, unfortunately (taking care of myself and taking note of fine details). But it’s not just with the gifts–it really is the small things like how sometimes, when I take a nap beside him, he always makes sure to tuck me securely under his comforter so I’m all warm and toasty, or how, when I’m sick, he’s always right beside me making me drink gallons of water.
So really, I can’t thank anyone enough for having the most stellar boyfriend in the world. Every action he does, everything he gives, contains a lot of subtle nuances–those are, by far, the most beautiful and sweetest gestures for me. When I brought it up once, he smiled and said, “I’ve only ever been this attentive with you… because you deserve it.” Yes, this man is definitely a keeper!
For someone who loves to take photos, my boyfriend is one awkward turtle sometimes–especially when he’s not in the zone. He usually comes off as aloof and intimidating (he has the perpetual angry brow syndrome), but don’t be fooled! Between the two of us, he’s the more open and friendlier one (he has tons of friends really, he’s a people person). He’s also, surprisingly, very sweet and affectionate in real life–more so than I! He’s always the first to reach for my hand while walking, he’s the type to brush away my too-long fringes, he likes giving me quick pecks on my temple during the lull time of riding an escalator, so on and forth. I’ve never thought I’d be the romantic cheesy type you know–back in college, if you told me this, I would have probably laughed in your face and called you crazy but well, finding the right person can change your perspective royally. <3
Kudos to my sister and my boyfriend for stellar tag-team photography work! Haha!
