This was the outfit I wore last Saturday–the whole of last Saturday, as a matter of fact. I woke up early that day so I could be up and about in SM Megamall, dropping by the newly opened Cotton On store. Now, I’m a huge fan of the brand, whenever I travel to Hong Kong or Singapore, I would make a beeline to Cotton On. Known for being trendy, casual, and affordable, the Philippine branches of Cotton On live up to the brand’s international standard.
I actually got the studded cropped corset in this photo! I’m in an all-studs phase so I’ve been relentlessly buying a variety of items with studs and spikes!
Armed with the corset and a pair of gold metallic shorts, I left the scene and headed to my boyfriend’s house so we could go to Resorts World Manila to watch the King and I with his family.
Odd enough, Manila traffic was bearable that day and thus, I arrived half an hour ahead of schedule.
The King and I is one of my favorite musicals ever–next to Wicked and Sound of Music. I know most of the songs in the musical, watched the 60s film, then the 90s film entitled Anna and the King (then consequently discovered Tom Felton way before the Harry Potter hype–let me take credit for this, please), and watched various renditions of the musical.
On top of reading books, I enjoy watching movies and plays immensely. Maybe it’s why my friends refer to me as an escapist. I like spending an hour or two getting transported and immersed in an alternate reality or universe–it’s like living someone else’s life without having to deal with the repercussions after.
Given my stressful work week, watching the King and I was the perfect way to relax and indulge. The set was beyond lovely and the singing was superb, I wasn’t all that convinced with the way the plot unfolded (it seemed slightly rushed) but well, we win some, we lose some. Over all, it is a must-see!
On top of being an Asian History junkie (this is the primary reason why I love The King and I, because I am fascinated by ancient Asia and had pretty much aced all my Asian History courses from when I was in High School up to college), I loved the life lessons you can derive from such a seemingly innocent and child-like play.
My favorite song is obviously the title of this post: “I Whistle a Happy Tune”, and the particular line Anna told her Son Louis: “I whistle a happy tune and every single time, the happiness in the tune, convinces me I’m not afraid…” echoes my usual thought process and sentiment: “act it until you convince yourself to feel it.”
Simplistic but true, nevertheless.
So as soon as we finished watching the play, we had early dinner at Republiq cafe. We were too hungry to even take photos of our food (a first)–as soon as the nachos, the fries, and the chicken steak arrived, everything was devoured within seconds.
Afterwards, on our way out, we dropped by Jimmy Choo to check out their fall collection. My boyfriend, who was in a rut on what to give me for my upcoming birthday (because I’m really not one to ask), finally made a choice–he had been toying with the idea of getting me an Iphone 5 (which I’m totally not supportive of because I have a 4 that works perfectly and suppliers are still pricing it unreasonably high) or a Charriol watch (but I’m not really a watch-wearer) but instead, opted to give me the coveted candy acrylic clutch in bronze–the style I’ve always wanted but would always miss out on because it was constantly out-of-stock in Bluefly.
For half an hour in the store, we played tug-of-war, I was adamant that he not buy me the bag because I had every intention of purchasing it myself (on sale, mind you, at 40 off) but in the end, I relented and he won. He paid in full for a regular-priced designer bag in the classiest color imaginable, and I was not-so-secretly ecstatic.
I love it so very much. The color is much classier than the black that I originally intended to buy, and it’s the perfect shape to hold all my essentials! My boyfriend joked about its duality, saying that when we’re out and I’m using the clutch, he’d borrow it after one dinner to check if anything is stuck between his teeth. How utterly clever!
When we got back home, my boyfriend’s mom decided to give me her present too! Knowing that my ultimate favorite brand is YSL, she got me a YSL Muse Clutch in black stingray leather. It looks beyond exquisite!
So that pretty much concluded my wonderful day! Onwards to my outfit:
Using NYX lipstick in African Queen
I love the vibrant and bold colors, something I missed from summer!
These sky high heels are an instant favorite! They’re also very comfortable too!
An outtake: I told my help, “It’s a wrap!”
And before I forget:
