White Silk Top: Massimo Dutti | Necklace: Forever 21 | Shorts: Naleigh Shop | Envelop Clutch: Coach | High Heel Loafers: From Korea Bazaar
Preppy is a look that’s a little bit foreign to my sensibilities. I’ve always been apathetic towards the aforementioned style; I mean, yeah, I like the whole occasional geek-chic and I believe that people should always look put-together, but I think preppy is a completely different territory.
While geek-chic can be lumped together with hipster (and every style be well put-together, mind you), I think that when a person dresses preppy, they inject incremental articles of clothing that are reminiscent of private school uniforms and something off the rack from Abercrombie & Fitch (or Burberry, if you want to be associated with premium designer).
Think Spencer Hastings of Pretty Little Liars (I love her).
This is my personal take on “preppy.” I think the loafers are spot on, yes? Coupled with this modest crisp white shirt (which, by the way, looks like it belongs to some bible wielding Baptist ala Jamie Sullivan in A Walk to Remember).
So okay, maybe this is how I actually dress up on days when I don’t want to over-think my outfit. It’s a variation of my tried and tested formula–a breezy top paired off with tiny shorts and sky high heels. To give the outfit a twist (because it’s very simple as it is), I decided to focus on the quirky details! Like the adorable abstract print of the Naleigh Shop shorts, my clutch’s buckle, and the fringe details of my shoes.
Here are some more photos. What do you think?
I am a huge fan of Massimo Dutti. I love how refined their clothes are and I especially like that they don’t scrimp on materials! This silk top’s intricate lace details may be subtle but they add a sense of class to a seemingly prosaic-looking top.
