For some odd reason, I’ve been drawn to all shades of red quite recently–firetruck red, maroon, wine, and coral being a few of my favorites. So recently, I went on an all-red binge–buying blazers, tops, bottoms, accessories, and shoes in the aforementioned red shades. Thankfully, most high-street stores in the Philippines have stocked their racks with current-season articles in the said color trend.
Perhaps it’s the Chinese in me, bursting out! Red symbolizes luck for the Chinese so it’s commonly worn in weddings and birthdays.
When I told one of my (best) childhood friends currently residing in Canada, she laughed and confessed that she had the same penchant for red and that she would not leave the house without a semblance of the color in her outfit.
My mom’s always resented the fact that years prior, when I attend various relatives’ birthday parties, I would arrive in some pink-hued outfit. To the point that she bought me a red Lacoste polo shirt to serve as a birthday uniform for the years to come (still unused in my closet, by the way).
These days, I don’t think she’ll have that much problem, shoving and parading me in something red because I am deeply in love with the color.
This was an outfit I wore for a particular sun-date with the boyfriend and JL. We met up at Rockwell that day and went around to shop in various stores, furniture stores included as JL was looking for a new bed for he new room in their new house.
This is what I’d like to call, a no-brainer outfit. I came from a shoot in Tarlac hours prior so I only had a few minutes to change and prep myself so I threw on statement pieces (the ones on top of the pile) like the blazer and the heels, and muted the rest of my outfit so it won’t compete with one another.
Likewise, I didn’t want to look too corporate on a Sunday so I decided to wear linen shorts for a more relaxed vibe, yet maintained the heels and the blazer to keep the whole look polished and classy.
Actually, before I take credit for the amazing blazer, the story behind it is that I’ve only been eyeing it early last July when it was first released. I didn’t buy it immediately because I was trying to weigh my options–it was too pricey for a blazer but it was so tailored. Before I could make the decision, my boyfriend surprised me with it for our (6)1st monthsary.
On the other hand, this red pair were the ones I’ve been waiting for since time immemorial. When it was released in the Zara website, I took a screen capture of it on my iPhone and had continuously pestered various Zara branches for the style. At some point, I found them in Zara Greenbelt but they no longer had it in my size, so I had them call up Zara Rockwell, who thankfully had a pair. So I had my boyfriend reserve it because I could only pass for it that weekend. A day before I was going to purchase it, I dropped by my boyfriend’s house and to my surprise (though I really should’ve expected it already), he handed it over and said he got it instead knowing how I’ve always wanted it (and would not shut up about it).
My boyfriend is the sweetest.
Anyway, here are a few more photos from the excursion!
It was a week before our (6)2nd monthsary and I needed to get my boyfriend a gift asap. I know it’s really strange to give gifts every month but it’s how we are, we like spoiling each other with gifts (and trust me, I’m very adamant on it being a two-way thing. I like giving just as much as I like receiving, and I view gift-giving the same way I view relationships, one that’s built on give and take, and why not? I can afford to).
So while I was on a shoot in Tarlac prior to our sun-date, my boyfriend mentioned via iMessage that he’s finally decided to buy this pair of grey trousers he’s been wanting for a long time from Zara (the one he wore for Cirque, in the previous post). Now this is a milestone because he’s been continuously expressing his eternal love for the trousers but has never remotely entertained the idea of buying it because he already has one in the same style but in blue (with red piping). He figured it would be too frivolous to buy a pair in the same style but in a different color.
Being the awesome girlfriend that I am, I decided at that very moment to be the one to get it for him. It’s not that I don’t think of my gifts in advance, it’s that my original gift, a pair of Rag & Bone shoes, were still being shipped from the US. So now, the pressure was to secure the pants before he did (he lives a stone’s throw away from Rockwell) so I called up Zara Rockwell immediately after his declaration and talked to the manager, instructing him to reserve me the pair in his size and to hide the remaining pieces so when he drops by, he won’t be able to purchase.
So when we arrived at Zara that afternoon, JL had to distract him while I went around to purchase the pair from the counter. When we met up half an hour later, he looked disappointed and said it wasn’t meant to be because the pair was no longer in the rack. I really wasn’t going to fold, I planned on giving the gift before the day ended but because he looked so adorable and sad, I decided to say: “Well, they didn’t have your size because I got the last pair for you” and handed him the paper bag.
Haha, the look on his face was priceless.
Anyway! Some more photos:
