For our company Christmas party, each employee was tasked to participate in a short dance number. For our group in particular, we built a rough musical around the Austin Powers films–we took every single dialogue to heart and had everything down to a T, with a full cast and an awesome soundtrack. Considering we work for a television network, it was only appropriate that we were allowed access to sift through an endless display of costumes (not to mention, a supply of employees with impressive acting chops).
The performance was a success by the way, and to keep the mood going, I decided to loop my ipod on several Queen and Deep Purple albums.
So it goes without saying that I’ve always been a fan of the seventies–the whole huge afro, rock and roll, plus bell bottoms shtick. On top of that, I realized that I’ve actually a lot of seventies-inspired pieces inside my closet; the likes of: crochet vests, palazzo pants, fur coats, fringes, and high waist shorts.
Okay, so maybe I’m more of a fan of eras in general and timelines. Remember how last year, I gave you a glimpse of 80s fashion, this year, I’m bringing back the groovy seventies.

If you follow me on twitter, you’ve probably heard me refer to our dog “Ewok” just about a million times. Ewok is a one-year-old bug-eyed female Shih’ Tzu, named after a species of aliens from the Star Wars series.
She’s a very playful, attentive, and affectionate pet; whenever I’m writing my blog entries, she’ll either curl up beside me or rest over my feet. There are also times when she’d ask to be picked up just so she can rest beside me and get a fantastic view of my laptop’s monitor. Since she sleeps on a cot inside my room, I sometimes wake up to her having had climbed up my bed.
This photo shows you an instant where she’s being persistent, wanting to be a part of whatever it is that I’m doing. While having my photos taken that day, she ran up and cocked her head, motioning for me to pick her up. I guess there’s an inner cam-whore in Ewok that’s just waiting to emerge! Since I can’t resist her charms, I more often than not, indulge her every whim (like this one).
As soon as this photo session was done, I drove her to the groomer’s. They gave her a summer cut–which means she’s practically hairless and resembles more of a rat than a rug (definitely nothing like her namesake).
For this post and the last, the ones taking my photos are two of my household help. Since my cousin’s always asleep and the two are almost, always eager to help. They find my vanity so amusing and had joked around, saying: “Wacky pose, wacky pose!”
Since there are two of them, what I usually do is I ask the other to stand for the test shot. After which, I show the other how I want the photo framed, if it’s landscape or portrait in orientation, whatnot. Usually, they’re both easy to teach–much easier than my cousin in fact.
I know I complain a lot and liken pants to the torture devices but I absolutely love how tall these wide legs make me look. The thing with pants is that, it tends to frame my hips like crazy and with child-birthing hips like mine, it’s as obvious as a light house.
Since I’ve lost a wee bit of weight (I was sick during December and January), my hips no longer seem as obvious if only because the saddle bags that I refer to fondly as “my thighs” have slightly deflated.
The day before, Val attempted to make ombre hair happen for both Crissey and I. We shopped for supplies at the mall then headed straight to Marj’s house so we could apply the dye. Crissey ended up with bright pink tips while I ended up looking like nothing’s changed. Next time, I’m going to get fantastic ombre hair, just wait for it!
Now, my hair, that’s a tricky thing–I’m thinking of ditching my waves for something sleek and straight, thoughts, everyone?
Anyway, hope you all have a great week. I can’t wait for Saturday to come, I’m cooking up something of epic proportions! I’ll probably document it, depending on my mood and how it’ll pan out but I can’t wait!
