All that glitter is gold, this Holiday Season. Or should I say, all that tinsel is gold? Shiny, shiny objects are big this season (when is it not for Holidays?)–Best not blend in with the Christmas decors!
Remember that line in Mean Girls, the one that was enumerated by Cady (Lindsay Lohan’s character), something along the lines of: “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it?”
Well, the concept of holiday dressing runs along the same vein–it’s the only season in a year where girls can dress up like Can-can dancers or shiny wrapping paper and actually look fantastic! Or maybe, whatever, you know, it’s the time of the year where girls can wear clubbing apparel at 9 AM and get away with it.
Just kidding! Horrible and unfunny analogy aside, you’ve got to agree with me when I say one’s social calendar during the holidays is almost or always filled to the brink–with parties to attend to, left and right, family dinners, balls, galas, and the sort. Personally, I’m not a fan of parties–especially those that are family-instigated. I am a hermit and a lone-wolf, you know, and I hate pretentious and awkward small talk, so I’m the type to relish on small, private, get-togethers.
But since these occurrences are pretty much unavoidable, I try to make the most of it. Or rather, I try to have fun. But having fun is hard when you have no one to talk to–I mean, most of my cousins are ten years younger than I am, so trust me, conversations speckled with “OMGGGGGGGGGGGG JUSTIN BEIBER” or topics focusing on their training bra is enough to make me want to drink myself to a stupor. So I compensate by dressing up! At least, when they take photos, a few years after, I can give myself a mental pat on the back and say: “Man, I’m the most well-dressed!”
So for this year, to get into the spirit of Christmas, I am throwing in something that’s high-shine, with a semblance for glitter and glam. My theme will be Hollywood red carpet. What will be yours?
Since it will be December in the weeks to come, I’m stocking my wardrobe. Here are a few pegs to keep you inspired:
