Fact: If you show your lingerie in public, people will think you’re “trashy.” Especially in Asia, where conservative mindsets are irrationally overwhelming. Like, if I showed a hint of my bra strap in public, my mother will have kittens!
But since I don’t live with my mother, there are times when I do actually take out my lace corsets–especially when I’m feeling a bit daring. I wear it under slouchy tops or loose tanks, I’m incorrigible, I know. Though, of course, I do take my mother’s advice into account. I mean, the woman has some valid points! In the Philippines, if you decide to wear your lingerie out, people will not only judge you but a few will manage to leer at you (often unabashedly). But don’t think of Philippines as the only creeper nation–come to think about it, if I actually went around in New York wearing only my lingerie, I’ll still be leered at (especially if I take the subway–true story).
Then we’ll have chauvinists going: “Then don’t wear your lingerie out”–and I think, yeah, you are right! To an extent, rather–the thing is, wearing lingerie is pretty much dependent on WHERE and HOW you don said lingerie. First and foremost, you can only wear it out in appropriate places–I mean, this holds true for most trends, right? You’re not going to wear your bra out with vest on top when it’s raining, right? Next, you have to examine the lingerie you choose; make sure it is of quality or at least, something that won’t mistake you for a “hooker.” Yes, I know it sounds harsh and I apologize in advance if I offend anyone but trust me, there are a whole lot of discerning people who will not only think the same thing, but pretty much, harsher things (my relatives are traditional Chinese people).
Now, with the inner wear as outer wear trend, the key is to carry the oufit with class. Class is all about balancing elements–say, if you show some skin on some parts, make sure to cover other erroneous zones generously. At the same time, pair your lingerie off with rich and luxurious textures.
As is with most trends, there are numerous looks you can experiment and achieve with the lingerie trend. Here are a few of my inspirations. Please note that not all of them are outfits you can necessarily wear out.
Also, I am so obsessed with Alexander Wang’s T-Bra but you can hardly find any here (and they’re ridiculously pricey). :< That said, I ask you, will you be bold enough to try the Lingerie Trend out?
